Voices of Aotearoa
In this course, students will engage with literature from Aotearoa New Zealand and the wider Pacific, exploring how authors express identity, challenge injustice, and celebrate language and culture. Through a range of rich texts—poetry, prose, film, and non-fiction—students will deepen their understanding of how stories shape and reflect the world around us.
This is a course for students who are curious about the diverse voices that have emerged from our region and who are willing to critically explore the role of language in shaping thought. You’ll read and respond to texts that matter—texts that speak to the complexities of place, people, power, and belonging.
At Level 7 of the New Zealand Curriculum, you’ll build your skills in analysis, interpretation, and crafting written and oral texts. Expect to be challenged. Expect to think deeply. Expect to do the work. This is a course for students who are ready to develop a nuanced, critical voice of their own—and who are willing to listen to the voices that have long been speaking.
