Who would be interested in this course?Students with prior experience on an instrument is required for this course. Experience with performances and participation in Musical groups is recommended as well.
Music Academy
This course is for students who already have experience on an instrument (including voice). During the course, students will rehearse and present performances of music in small groups as well as learn basic music theory and develop skills on relevant music technologies.
Students who select this course will need to present a brief audition to check they have suitable instrumental skills. These will be scheduled in November of the preceding year.
Students who are not successful will be placed into a Year 9 Music (Half year option) course.
Term 1
Students will form groups and start learning songs with the aim of performing at a showcase evening at the start of Term 2. Students will also begin writing their own songs, and understanding how theory works in the context of the music that they are playing. Students are also encouraged to participate in the extracurricular life of the school, as well as take lessons through the itinerant scheme.
Term 2
Students will continue developing group performance skills, with the aim of getting a recording of their song in the school recording studio. Students will also be encouraged to enter original songs into the Play it Strange and Rockquest Competitions.
