Who would be interested in this course?At least 12 credits from Level 2 English Achievement Standards with a preference for an Achieved grade or better in the writing standards.
The course has an academic focus and will suit students with confident reading skills. The course will appeal to students who wish to undertake learning activities similiar to the style of tertiary study -- including the research process, reading (and selecting appropriate) academic papers, and the constructing sophisticated arguments.
Additionally, students will engage with a wide variety of authors not only to explore the representation of ideas, but also to further develop a sophisticated understanding of how to craft texts. The writing folio will be a major component of this programme. It will offer students the opportunity to focus on creating work which is suitable for publication.
Students will participate in selecting the texts for this course.
Students will select which of the internal and external standards they are interested in. A student intended to sit Scholarship English should do 3.3 as one of the externals.
