Year 11 Humanities - Disaster Geography

11HDGS
Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs D. Norman.

Who would be interested in this course?

Students who enjoyed social studies in year 9 or 10, and any student who has an interest in the jaw-dropping acts of nature that occur on our planet.

When Mother Nature strikes we must be prepared. We must know how to adapt and respond to the challenges of our environment in order to save lives. This course will expose students to the exciting world of “natural” disasters. There will be a focus on how disasters occur across Auckland and New Zealand. Students will analyse how key environmental hazards occur and the impact of these upon both people and the environment. The concept of disaster risk reduction will come to the fore as students will learn to anticipate disaster, and respond to it well in advance to avoid the worst case scenarios.

There maybe an opportunity to sit ONE internal assessment.

This is a half year course and counts as one option course selection.
