Who would be interested in this course?Students who enjoy reading stories of mythology, gods, heroes and mythical creatures. Those who think they would like to do Level 2 or Level 3 Classical Studies in the future
An investigation into the creation myths of a range of early civilisations, this course will look at the stories of how the world came into existence. We will start with a broad view of a selection of early creation stories (eg Viking, Sumarian, Mayan, Egyptian, Babylonian, Persian) the gods involved, mythical creatures, how people came into being. We will end with a closer analysis of the Greek and Māori stories, finding themes and ideas that run through both.
This is a half year course and counts as one option course selection.
