Year 11 English - Debates in Psychology

Debate in Psychology is a subject where you will explore how humans explain the unexplainable. Humans know it is wrong to hurt others, yet we do. As a society over time, we have made laws, developed codes of ethics and developed our principles of morality. Yet time and time again we see others break those laws, act unethically and do what is not right. In this course, you will learn how scientists, thinkers, creators and scholars have tried to rationalise human behaviour. 

The 21st century has brought about massive changes in society, but our core humanity is still something we hunger to understand. You will engage with a variety of contexts from fiction and non-fiction where this very issue is debated. From nature versus nurture to our brains wiring you will learn how others have tried to answer the question of why can’t we do unto others as we would do unto ourselves?

This course builds on the skills developed in Years 9 & 10.

This is a half year course and counts as one of your two English course selections.
