Level 2 English - English World Perspectives

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms J. Moss.

12 World Perspectives (2ENW) is for students who are interested in considering novels and films differently. This course introduces basic psychology  -- as it applies to reading texts.

You will look at:

  • Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung (Psychoanalytic and Archetypal Theory)

  • Historical Events (New Historicist and Feminist Theory)

Using these theories we will focus on understanding character motivation, love and relationships, and tropes. We will also look at which narratives are shared and how these influence the audience.

This course requires students to enjoy reading and writing.  Previously studied texts have included: The Book Thief, Vox, Ex-Machina, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Handmaid's Tale, Imitation Game, and a wide selection of poetry and short stories.

There are 13 credits from internals and 8 credits from externals available (one of the externals is optional).

Who would be interested in this course?

You should aim to have at least 10 credits from Level 1 English courses (including either formal or creative writing). If you have less than this please meet with the Teacher in Charge to discuss your learning.
