Course Description

Who would be interested in this course?

Anyone who is a developing musician with a focus on instrumental skills and composition. Previous involvement in the music department would be ideal, as well as participation in the school itinerant program or private instrumental lessons. 

Exclusions: Students in this course cannot take 11AMPF.



Music Studies is designed to give students the practical skill and theoretical knowledge to progress as musicians and composers. Students will complete both performance and compositional tasks throughout the year, as well as explore the wider impact of context on the music they interact with.
This is a full year course and counts as two option course selections.



Course Overview

Term 1
Performance, practice and engagement. Students will be actively engaged in the musical life of the school, both in and out of class.

Term 2
Elements and Materials of Music. Developing knowledge of the theoretical aspects of music, and how they relate to the practical side.

Term 3
Music in context - exploring how music impacts the world around us, and the world impacts the music.

Term 4
Bringing it all together. Students bring all of the knowledge together to perform, create and present a show.

Must own or hire an instrument for home practice and attend regular tuition (school or private). A clear file folder and general stationary would be helpful as well.
