Year 11 Humanities - Classics: Ancient Stories

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs D. Norman.

An investigation into the creation myths of a range of early civilisations, this course will look at the stories of how the world came into existence.  We will start with a broad view of a wide range of early creation stories (Viking, Sumarian, Mayan, Egyptian, Babylonian, Persian) the gods involved, the mythical creatures, how people came into being. We will end with a closer analysis of the Greek and Māori stories, finding themes and ideas that run through both.

This is a half year course and counts as one option course selection.

Who would be interested in this course?

Students who enjoy reading stories of mythology, gods, heroes and mythical creatures. Those who think they would like to do Level 2 or Level 3 Classical Studies in the future
