Year 11 Humanities - Geography: People in Conflict

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs D. Norman.

Our world is in a new era of conflict. From full scale nation on nation war to information wars, how do we manage these new difficult times?

Students will examine different understandings of “conflict” in geography. Initially conflict will be examined through different perspectives and understanding of landscapes/ land use and understanding these perspectives. Students will examine how different groups seek to use land/resources differently, and the conflict that arises when these differences can not be overcome. Content will be drawn from both New Zealand and global case studies. This section aims to inspire the next generation of community problem solvers.

Following the introduction to conflict in geography, students will use their knowledge of physical and human geography to analyse a potential scenario of military conflict. How do we defend from invasion? Where is the best place to put our defences, how does our geography help or hinder us in our time of greatest need.

There maybe an opportunity to sit ONE internal assessment.
