Level 2 Geography
Course Description
Teacher in Charge:
LEARNING ACTIVITIES: The course is based around two external standards: Development issues (Tanzania), and Geographic Skills (using maps, graphs, photos etc). There are three internal standards: the Research standard is based around collection of data and observations across Auckland on a one-day field trip. The Current Geographic Issue standard looks at the Dome Valley Landfill dispute. The Urban Pattern standard looks at the pattern of murders in the city of Chicago.
In addition to the content and case studies, students learn a range of skills such as gathering, presenting, analysing and interpreting data, together with practical techniques.
Who would be interested in this course?
Any student with an interest in Geography. Level 1 Geography is recommended but not necessary. Students who haven't taken Geography before can join the course and quickly adapt to new content.
Pathway
The skills and attributes gained in Geography courses make students highly employable in a wide variety of fields across both government and non-government sectors.
Geography students are sought after in climate change planning, public policy advisory roles, armed forces, environmental science roles, tourism, conservation and many more exciting industries.
