2ESS

Level 2 Earth and Space Science

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr R. Eyre.

This course is designed for students with an interest in Earth and Space Science.  Assessments will allow students to demonstrate their understanding in a range of formats.  Students will study aspects of geology, astronomy, planetary science, extreme earth events and how environments impact life, through a wide variety of activities, including research, group work, and modeling.

By the end of the year, successful students will have the necessary background to progress to the Level 3 Earth and Space Science course. To continue on to 3ESS, students should have experienced success in at least one external exam, as well as the internal assessments. Success in Earth and Space Science can lead to further study and careers in geology, astronomy, planetary science, environmental science, climate change, environmental planning, geography, fisheries research, land management and others.

Who would be interested in this course?

Students interested in this course would either have an interest in Astronomical or Earth Sciences for University level study, or simply a general interest in how the world works.

The course is open to any student, but having done well in Solar Cycles, Nature of Science, or Physical Processes of Planet Earth will mean you are well prepared for 2ESS.
