These form the basis of the skills set in the NCEA ESOL writing and reading standards, which students will require later.

The ELIP Social Studies course is designed for English Language Students with a total ELLP score of less than 7. This course combines aspects of the junior mainstream Social Studies curriculum with language intensive exercises to improve grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing, mapping and understanding of New Zealand society, geography and history.

Some of the themes for units of work will be integrated with the ELIP English and Science programmes.

The skills learned in Social Studies combine with those in rest of the ELIP Programme, to provide students with the language to move into the mainstream.
