Who would be interested in this course?Any students interested dancing. Previous learning from junior courses or Level 1 Dance is useful but not essential if you have prior studio training in any specific dance styles.
Experience dancing in the school production dance troupe or within cultural dance groups will be an advantage.
A good track record of attendance is essential due to the collaborative nature of much of the work undertaken. If unsure of your experience level, please see HOD Drama and Dance Ms. Allpress.
This is a largely practical course with the focus on exploring the elements of dance, choreographic devices, and developing performance technique. Choreographic processes will be explored as will the movement vocabulary and conventions associated with a specified dance style. The dance style selected for the repertoire standard will be negotiated with the class based on interest and prior knowledge.

There may be opportunity for students to gain dance credits through involvement as dancers and or choreographers in the school production and through participation in the Lynfield Cultural Festival.
Where possible and appropriate, learning from different achievement standards will be integrated into a single learning context or theme. This may also include performance and choreography undertaken through extracurricular involvement.
