Teacher in Charge: Mr C. Yearbury.
Who would be interested in this course?Students interested in the manipulation of materials to design and construct outcomes from mixed materials. Suits students heading down the construction, manufacturing, technologist or engineering career pathways.
In this course students will learn through a combination of theory and hands-on projects, to develop the skills and knowledge in a range of materials.
Students will design a solution within a given context using the design process. They will also create a product using hard materials. Students will learn how to use machinery and hand tools and learn assemble techniques that reflect industry codes of practice.
This is a full year course and counts as two option course selections.
Term 1
Learning Focus: Understanding of material properties and the role of material evaluation.
• Defining and testing materials to determine their properties.
• Evaluating materials and how their properties enable products to function.
Term 2
Learning Focus: Implementing basic techniques using resistant materials.
• Cutting, joining, finishing
• A small skills based project
Term 3
Learning Focus: Develop a conceptual design for an outcome.
• Demonstrating an understanding of sustainability in design.
• Implementing modelling to inform design.
Term 4
Implement basic procedures using resistant materials to make a product.
