This course provides students with the opportunity to develop fashion garments and products
using a range of fabrics and applied design techniques. Students learn about commercial patterns and how to make minor adaptations to construct a casual wear garment.
The second unit is part of the global movement ‘Dress a girl around the world’. For this project, students construct a garment for a child in need: www.dressagirlaroundtheworld.com/
This course aligns with the following vocational pathways and career opportunities: Creative
Industries, Manufacturing and Technology and Construction and Infrastructure and leads into the following careers: Product designer, fashion designer, textile designer, interior designer, fashion stylist, fashion blogger/ journalist, pattern maker/ CAD operator.
Basic fabrics and patterns will be provided. Students that wish to use specialist fabrics are required to purchase their own.
Experience in Year 9 Soft materials is an advantage but not compulsory.
