ELIP Social Studies

Course Description

The ELIP Foundation programme includes six courses and students must take all courses plus PHE in years 9-11 and some mainstream options.

The ELIP Social Studies course is designed for English Language Students with a total ELLP score of less than 6. This course combines aspects of the junior mainstream Social Studies curriculum with language intensive exercises to improve grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing, mapping and understanding of New Zealand society, geography and history.

Some of the themes for units of work will be integrated with the ELIP English and Science programmes. 

The skills learned in Social Studies combine with those in rest of the ELIP Programme, to provide students with the language to move into the mainstream.


Who would be interested in this course?

English Language Learners in any year level who are at the beginner or elementary stage of language learning.

Pathway

The aim of the ELIP programme is to prepare students to move into the mainstream in all subjects.
