Level 2 English - English with Classics
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms J. Moss.
This course will suit students who are taking Classical Studies at Level 2 or Level 3, or have an passion for the subject. Students taking this course will explore Joseph Campbell's Monomyth and The Hero with a Thousand Faces, and The Odyssey, and the impact of these on literature and pop culture today. Students will begin to explore the attributes of the "hero" as depicted in film, anime, tv, and written texts. In Term 3, there are opportunities for students to explore these concepts further based on their own interests through content such as Marvel, DC, the differences between Western and Eastern literature (including anime and manga), specific genres such as high fantasy or grimdark, or even in the work of particular directors such as Ridley Scott and Zack Snyder.
There will be assessment opportunities in this course which build on the learning which occurs in Classics. The English standards will be offered at Level 2 or 3 depending on the needs of the students.
There are eleven credits offered through internals and a further four credits (and one optional standard of four credits) available through external examination.
