Year 9 Music

Course Description

The Half Year course for Year 9 Music is designed to give students a foundation from which to build their musical skills. Students will spend time learning some fundamental instrumental skills, as well as skills aimed towards performing as a member of a group. They will also explore using digital music technology to create original pieces of music.

  • Guitar skills (classical and rock)
  • Ensemble Skills
  • Basic music theory
  • Music technology


Course Overview

Term 1
Students will complete the introductory Guitar skills and Theory work during their first term in music. The will begin to develop the skills to strum basic open position chords, and gain an understanding of basic music theory.

Term 2
Students will continue learning the guitar, but also have the option to learn/progress on a different instrument such as piano. Students are also encouraged to learn an instrument through the itinerant scheme. Theory skills are continued, and students will gain a greater understanding of the theoretical elements of music.

Pens, Pencils and a Clear File folder will be useful in this course.

Pathway

This course is the foundation course for all music at Lynfield College. It can lead on to future study/work in the music industry, as well as provide the skills to be successful multiple other disciplines.
