Level 3 Te Reo Maori

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs J. Leauga.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES: This course contains further development of Mātauranga Māori, as it enters into more complex grammar features, alternative vocabulary including whakatauki and dialectal variance. Students will speak/present/ listen to and write in Te reo Māori with confidence and flair. They will be offered a variety of Māori experiences to develop their reo including kōrero and Kapa Haka performances for hui eg Powhiri visiting roopu, Whānau, kaiako and the community.

Māori media and journalism, iwi management, tertiary education, education, linguistics, medical, professional and legal work. Speakers of Te Reo Māori are in high demand, similarly the ability to speak and understand kawa and advise are all seen as benefits in many career pathways.

Assessment Information

This course consists of two portfolio internal assessments, each worth 6 credits and all standards are Literacy standards and University approved. There will be a minimum of two korero (spoken) and two tuhituhi (written) pieces submitted by each akonga. An opportunity for two external standards Panui (reading comprehension) and Tuhituhi (written-formal) will be available to akonga.
