Year 11 Te Reo Maori

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs J. Leauga.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES: This course contains practical and theory-based activities and will have ākonga preparing and serving kai to manuhiri at the school marae. Assessments will be both practical and theory based. A haerenga (trip) to either Rangiriri/Rotorua/Waitangi/Rarotonga is planned for seniors.

Māori media, land law, education, tertiary teaching, whānau/hapu management. Language specialisation can be integral for all the above careers, and knowledge of tikanga Māori will improve employment prospects.


This is a full year course and counts as two option course selections.



Who would be interested in this course?

Students who studied Year 10 Māori. You must have approval from Mrs Leauga if you have not taken Year 10 Māori. Students may be willing to pursue a career in Māori media/ Māori language teaching or enhance their career prospects with an additional language.

Assessment Information

The assessments/aromatawai include portfolio standards. Korero- two pieces and Tuhituhi- two pieces. All standards offer Level 1 literacy. For externals standards, there is an opportunity for two aromatawai: panui and tuhituhi (reading and writing). Please see Mrs Leauga (Whaea) for any further details.
