Level 2 Earth and Space Science
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr R. Eyre
This course is designed for students with an interest in Earth and Space Science. It will include field trips to both Waitomo Caves and the Stardome Observatory. Assessments will allow students to demonstrate their understanding in a range of formats. Students will study aspects of geology, astronomy, planetary science, extreme earth events and how environments impact life, through a wide variety of activities, including research, group work, and modeling.
By the end of the year, successful students will have earned Level 2 credits which contribute to
University Entrance, and will have the necessary background to progress to the Level 3 Earth and Space Science course. To continue on to 13ESS, students need to achieve at least one external exam, as well as the internal assessments. Success in Earth and Space Science can lead to further study and careers in geology, astronomy, planetary science, environmental science, climate change, environmental planning, geography, fisheries research, land management and others.
Recommended Prior Learning
8 credits from a Level 1 Science course, including at least one externally assessed standard.
