Year 11 Dance - Stepping Out
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms S. Allpress.
This course leads on from learning activities in Year 10. However, it is not necessary to have taken junior dance at Lynfield to gain entry to this course.
In this course students will;
- explore a range of dance styles
- create original dance sequences
- perform danceworks to an invited audience
- attend a dance performance of tertiary students at UNITEC
Students will work collaboratively in small groups to create an original dance based on a selected idea or theme. This will form the basis of the Level 2 achievement standard assessed in Term 4.
This is a full year course and counts as two option course selections.
Who would be interested in this course?
- Students who have a passion for dance and enjoy exploring a range of dance styles in pairs and small groups.
- Students who enjoy creating original dance works with their peers.
- Students who wish to explore self expression through creativity and imagination.
- Active learners who enjoy a creative challenge.
A love of dance and dancing is the main requirement for this course. A positive attitude to learning and the desire to explore a range of dance styles.
Prior experience in Junior Dance is useful but not essential. Experience performing in either cultural dance or a school production is also useful but not essential. Studio training in any dance style would be an advantage but is not required for entry to this course.
An ability to work collaboratively in pairs or small groups will be a requirement for success in Year 11 Dance. Due to the focus on group work, a good attendance record is advised as a prerequisite for entry. If you are unsure about your suitability to enroll in this option, please discuss with the HOD of Drama and Dance, Ms. Allpress.
