Year 11 Technology - Digital Technologies

Course Description

This course leads to further study in digital technologies and a greater understanding of the digital technologies used in our daily lives. The 11TDTF course provides vocational pathways into the creative industries, manufacturing and technology, and service industries. 

Students will complete investigative practical projects to develop a comprehensive understanding of societal, organisational and consumer factors involved in digital technology. They will use a variety of industry standard software applications to produce a range of digital solutions to problems. In addition, students will learn about and experience a variety of skills in a DTG context including research, design, Database, HTML web authoring, programming using Python and digital security.


This is a full year course and counts as two option course selections.

Course Overview

Term 1
Focus: Understanding the design principles and elements of design and then applying that to a mini-project. Students will be able to develop appropriate skills and understand the fundamental concepts in the use of common software applications such as: Spreadsheet. Illustrator and HTML. Students will be assessed on their understanding of the design principles and how it meets end users and assessed at Level 6 of the curriculum.

Term 2
Focus: Understanding and applying basic computational thinking skills decomposition, abstraction, pattern recognition, algorithms, logic, and evaluation to write and debug computer programs. Students will be assessed on writing code for a program as a mini project that performs a specified task using a suitable programming language and assessed at level 6 of the curriculum.

Term 3
Focus: Introduction to Database. Students will be using appropriate tools and techniques to structure, organise, query, and present data for a purpose and end user and apply appropriate data integrity and testing procedures. They will be also looking a and describing relevant implications. Students will be assessed through milestone checkpoints for 91892 Assessment.

Term 4
Focus: 91892 Assessment using advanced techniques to develop a database. Students will be assessed on designing the structure of the data, using appropriate tools and advanced techniques to organise, query and present data for a purpose and end users, applying appropriate data integrity and testing procedures, and explaining relevant implications.

Pathway
