Year 10 Dance
Teacher in Charge: Ms S. Allpress
The course will build on the knowledge and skills developed in Year 9 Dance and establish a solid foundation for NCEA Dance. However, the Year 9 Dance option is not a prerequisite for enrollment in this course.
Students will explore and apply the elements of Dance through choreography and performance and select a dance genre to research. Students will create their own dance works in pairs and small groups, so good group and collaborative learning skills will be necessary, as well as imagination and creative thinking. Students will perform their dances to an invited audience.
Recommended Prior Learning
This is an open entry course. You do not have to have taken the Year 9 Dance option the previous year. An interest in dance and a willingness to explore new ideas and contribute positively in group work is essential. Experience in any dance form including cultural styles and production dance or experience in related movement forms such as martial arts, sport or gymnastics will be a useful added advantage.
