Year 10 Dance

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms S. Allpress.

The course will build on the knowledge and skills developed in Year 9 Dance and establish a solid foundation for NCEA Dance at Year 11, 12 and 13.  However, the Year 9 Dance option is not a prerequisite for enrollment in this course.

Students will explore and apply the elements of Dance through choreography and performance and select a dance genre to research. Students will create their own dance works in pairs and small groups, so good group and collaborative learning skills will be developed, as well as imagination and creative thinking. Students will perform their dances to an invited audience.

Who would be interested in this course?

Any student with an interest in dancing. This is an open entry course. You do not have to have taken the Year 9 Dance option the previous year. An interest in dance and a willingness to explore new ideas and contribute creatively in group work is essential. Experience in any dance form including cultural styles and production dance or experience in related movement forms such as martial arts, sport or gymnastics will be a useful added advantage.
